My "No Buy" Month, 2.14.25

I planned a no-buy month starting on January 1st. Well, I had good intentions to do so, as I was surprised by "accidentally" buying something online just about a week into the month. Yes, I accidentally, or rather absentmindedly, purchased a new cushion for our daybed. I immediately realized what I had done, actually just moments after I clicked on "complete your purchase". I could have considered this a failed attempt, but I tried to look at it as a win. The fact that I was immediately aware of buying something I didn't truly need, "clicking to buy"without really thinking about it, was a lesson in itself. After some thought and a scroll through my credit card and bank accounts, I realized how frequently I do this.

I couldn't start over at that point because the next one month time frame included my granddaughter's first birthday and I knew there would be buying involved. Although I was hyper aware of what I was and wasn't buying just after my accidental purchase, it soon led to the same mindless buying.

Well, an ah-ha moment happened today, out of the blue, reminding me of my retirement in the very near future. So here we go. I need to be held accountable, so I'll be sharing all of my little "wins" and, I'm sure, all of my "fails" as well.

I'm starting today, February 14, 2025, and my goal is to only spend money on essentials (food, toiletries, gas, etc.) until March 14. I'd really like to shoot for a longer period of time, but I know I'll have to include gift giving eventually. But, there are no birthdays or holidays coming up in the next month and one month isn't an overwhelming period of time, so I will start here.

Join me for the occasional check-in to read about the wins, the fails and how I satisfy the desire to buy something new. And, if you have your own stories or tips about this topic, I'd love to read them in the comments.

Have a great day (and Valentine's Day!) and

Be Good. Do Good.
